I start my day off with a couple cups (from one teabag) of Chinese tea. I buy a box of 100 teabags for some bargain basement price of $3.00 and enjoy the spartan-ness of it all.
By my third cup of the day, I’m looking for a different flavour. I’ve enjoyed some other teas from getting leftover tea from meetings and the like, and take the opportunity to shop for other brands, herbal and fruit teas. I hate when I make a misstep and get a tea that tastes like nothing at all.
While shopping at Save On Foods one day, I couldn’t help noticing all the sale tags flapping in a row under the Stash teas. I picked up Strawberry Pomegranate Herbal Red Tea (review to come, if it’s worthwhile) and then spied the Chocolate Mint Oolong Tea. My officemate likes to brew a sweet, strong tea like vanilla rooibos or vanilla chai and the smell can drive me nuts! I know that often tea can smell so good but be so disappointing in taste.
Soon after I purchased my Stash tea at Save On Foods, I was in a Safeway and they had Stash tea on sale, too. I would hardly think Safeway would have a better price but this time they did. Darn.
While the teabag is steeping and the drink is hot, the chocolate mint flavour is wonderful, a little light, not too minty, and kind of authentic. The real test is the taste. Smell is a huge component of taste so when you’re sipping it you’re smelling it and the tea itself is flavourful enough that you’re not shocked to really only be drinking tasteless hot water. They got it right, I think.
